25th Anniversary Celebration & Women in Public Service Leadership Awards - Over 200 people attended the silver anniversary celebration on September 18, 2003 at the Desmond. The program included a keynote by former governor of Vermont and founder of the Institute for Sustainable Communities Madeleine Kunin entitled, "Nothing Ventured, Nothing Changed"; a panel discussion on women's leadership challenges including Ms . Kunin, Hon. Helen Desfosses, Karen Dewitt, and Hon. Velmanette Montgomery.

     Following a brief reception the Center launched the first ever Women in Public Service Leadership Awards honoring six women from across New York State including Wendy Durand, Judith Enck, Maud Easter, Dr. Anne Elliott, Margaret Krause, and Joan Male.

New Research - "Nonprofit Governance Practices in Hungary" - a report released by BoardSource "details the perceptions and practices related to nonprofit governance and the work of nonprofit boards in Hungary." A collaborative project, authors include Judith Saidel, Levente Mura-Meszaros and Balazs Sator (Civil Society Development Foundation Hungary), and Marilyn Wyatt (BoardSource). Jacquelyn Hawkins, President of the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society's Board of Directors has been named an African American Leader of Excellence in State Service by Governor Pataki. The award was established as one of the Empire State's highest honors for state service. Ms. Hawkins received her award at the Governor's Tribute to African American Leaders of Excellence in State Service presented during the Annual NYS African American History Month Kickoff Celebration on Tuesday, February 4 at 6:00 pm at the State Museum Auditorium.
